KRAS Mutations in Duodenal Fluid Detect Resectable Pancreatic Cancer

Using KRAS mutations in duodenal lavage fluid after secretin stimulation offers a promising method for identifying resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) with high sensitivity.

  • The technique achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.934, indicating excellent discriminatory power between resectable PDAC (89 patients) and healthy controls (75 individuals).
  • Sensitivity for this approach was 83.1% with 100% specificity, outperforming traditional markers like CEA and CA19-9.

This minimally invasive testing could change the early screening landscape for PDAC, emphasizing the importance of genetic mutations in patient management.
