A retrospective analysis of 8,512 surgical patients revealed that 25.2% reported at least one social determinant of health (SDOH) need. Factors such as food insecurity, housing instability, lack of transportation, and unmet medication needs were identified as independent predictors of poor physical and mental health. The study emphasizes the importance of assessing and addressing SDOH needs in healthcare settings and by policymakers to improve health-related quality of life among surgical patients.
