Researchers investigated the efficacy and safety of an indocyanine green-macroaggregated albumin-hyaluronic acid (ICG-MAA-HA) mixture for surgical localization of recurrent thyroid cancer. Nine patients received preoperative injections of the dye into recurrent lesions, and surgery was performed using an imaging system for lesion identification. No side effects were reported, and the dye effectively located metastatic and recurrent thyroid cancer. The study suggests that ICG-MAA-HA dye has the potential to assist surgeons and further large-scale studies are needed to establish its clinical significance for patient survival and disease control.
