Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Cognitive Performance and Metabolites

After bariatric surgery, attention capacity and executive function improved, while immediate memory worsened. Serine, glutamic acid, and glycolic acid were identified as potential metabolites linked to cognitive performance alterations. Cluster analysis revealed two subgroups, with cluster 2 showing improved attention and executive function but reduced immediate memory. These findings suggest that bariatric surgery affects cognitive function and circulating metabolites, providing potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for preventing obesity-related cognitive decline.
