Elevated Postoperative CRP Levels Predict Major Complications in Colorectal Surgery

High C-reactive protein (CRP) levels on postoperative day 2 (POD 2) indicate an increased risk of major complications after oncological colorectal surgery. Patients with CRP levels ≥170 mg/L on POD 2 should be carefully assessed. Leucocytes and Modified Early Warning Score also peak on POD 2 in patients with major complications. A total of 16.2% developed major complications, while 61.3% recovered without complications. CRP levels were significantly higher in patients with advanced disease stages and those undergoing open procedures.
