Comparing laparoscopic and open surgery in obstructive colorectal cancer patients following stent placement, a meta-analysis of 12 cohort studies found no difference in 30-day mortality rates. While laparoscopic surgery had less blood loss, longer operation time, and shorter hospital stay, open surgery had more complications. Although not statistically significant, some data suggest favorable long-term outcomes with laparoscopic surgery. In patients with obstructive colorectal cancer and stent insertion, laparoscopic surgery may have a modest advantage over open surgery.
