Researchers evaluated the long-term outcomes of using bio-A biosynthetic mesh in ventral hernia repairs, finding a 17.4% overall recurrence rate. Contaminated cases had a higher recurrence rate of 28.8% compared to 10.4% in clean cases. Despite this, the study confirms the cost-effective use of biosynthetic mesh in all wound classifications, with good outcomes, limited long-term complications, and low recurrence rates.
