Parathyroid Cryopreservation: Cost-Effective for Hypoparathyroidism

Autotransplantation of cryopreserved parathyroid tissue was found to be cost-effective for treating permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism, with a low reimplantation rate but positive functionality outcomes. The cost-utility analysis estimated an additional cost of $70,719.04 per quality-adjusted life-year, below the common willingness-to-pay threshold. Individual surgical centers are advised to consider the economic and logistical implications of cryopreservation and autotransplantation for their specific needs.
