Gastrin plays a central role in glucose improvement after sleeve gastrectomy (SG). SG induces a medium-term elevation of the insulin response and plasma gastrin levels, with long-term depletion of the insulin response and elevated oral glucose tolerance test results. Gastrin antagonists, like netazepide, prevent these effects. This study highlights the dual effects of gastrin on insulin release and beta-cell mass post-SG.
