Factors Predicting Complications After Oesophagectomy

This study, analyzing over 2000 oesophagectomies across multiple countries, identifies predictors of anastomotic leak (AL) and conduit necrosis (CN). While AL remains challenging to predict using preoperative factors, a risk-scoring model for CN shows promise, with factors like BMI, performance status, myocardial infarction history, and smoking status contributing to its prediction. This model offers a valuable tool for estimating a patient’s risk of conduit necrosis preoperatively.
