Sleeve Gastrectomy Shows Promising Effects on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD)

Researchers investigated the diagnostic accuracy of transient elastography (TE) for steatosis and liver fibrosis in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) undergoing sleeve gastrectomy (SG). TE’s controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) and liver stiffness measurement (LSM) showed high accuracy in identifying liver steatosis and fibrosis. A nomogram was developed based on multivariate logistic regression analysis to predict severe MAFLD. After a 6-month follow-up, SG led to significant reductions in steatosis grade, fibrosis stage, and metabolic indicators in patients with obesity and MAFLD.
