Symptom Resolution and Survival Benefits of Palliative Surgery in Advanced Cancer

In a single-center experience, 127 patients underwent palliative surgery for advanced cancer, with a high symptom resolution rate of 89%. Complication and mortality rates were 19.7% and 6%, respectively. Successful symptom palliation significantly correlated with the potential to resume systemic chemotherapy, impacting overall survival. Palliative surgery showed effectiveness in symptom relief and survival enhancement, especially when enabling further anticancer treatment. Prospective data collection is recommended to ensure optimal patient care.
