Impact of Arterial Coverage with Retromesenteric Omental Flap on Postpancreatectomy Hemorrhage

Arterial coverage with retromesenteric omental flap significantly reduces clinically relevant postpancreatectomy hemorrhage after pancreaticoduodenectomy. This novel technique, compared to no coverage, led to lower hemorrhage rates, fewer postoperative pancreatic fistulas, and decreased reoperation needs. Multivariate analysis confirmed the omental flap as an independent protective factor against hemorrhage. Prospective studies are encouraged to validate these promising results and potentially enhance postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy.
