Patients who undergo pancreatic resection face a 2.4-fold increase in pathological fractures, a 1.4-1.5 fold increase in osteoporosis/osteomalacia, and vitamin-D deficiency. Post-surgery, bone mineral density declines more rapidly compared to historical controls. Older age, pancreatic cancer, and specific surgical procedures contribute to higher rates of bone mineral density loss. Focus on prevention strategies is crucial to reduce the risk of fractures and osteoporosis in these vulnerable patients.
