Frailty Predicts Complications in Emergency Abdominal Surgery

Frailty significantly increases the risk of postoperative complications and mortality after major emergency abdominal surgery. Patients with higher Clinical Frailty Scale scores experienced more complications, including pneumonia, delirium, and atrial fibrillation. Severe frailty was linked to increased surgical complications and 30-day mortality. The study emphasizes the importance of considering frailty in all patients undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, as it is a crucial predictor of adverse events.
