Global safe surgery mentorship program in Ethiopia shows positive impact, with fellows improving teamwork, leadership skills, and initiating quality improvement projects. Challenges include scheduling, communication, and budget constraints, calling for better program management. Despite obstacles like hospital resistance and the COVID-19 pandemic, the multidisciplinary training and local mentorship approach is promising, fostering a culture of teamwork and creating advocates for safe surgery in low- and middle-income countries.
