Significant weight loss and remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus were observed in patients post-sleeve gastrectomy. Patients exhibited low citrulline and high I-FABP levels preoperatively, which normalized postoperatively. The study found a positive correlation between the I-FABP/citrulline ratio and weight, BMI, glucose, insulin, and c-peptide levels. Sleeve gastrectomy not only improves enteroendocrine function but also aids in diabetes remission and counteracting obesity-related effects on the enteroendocrine system.
