Decreasing Superficial and Deep Infections in Colorectal Surgery

A noticeable decline in rates of superficial and deep incisional infections has been observed from 2013 to 2020 in colorectal surgery, attributed to increased use of minimally invasive techniques. However, organ space infections have shown an upward trend during the same period. Adoption of minimally invasive approaches has significantly lowered the odds of surgical site infections. Further research is needed to refine infection prevention strategies and explore novel interventions for postoperative infections.
