Sarcopenia Linked to Worse Outcomes in Pancreatic Surgery

High prevalence of sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity in elderly male patients undergoing pancreatic surgery was associated with increased risk of severe postoperative complications. Visceral obesity and malnutrition did not impact outcomes significantly. Perineural invasion was common but unrelated to body composition. Findings highlight the need for preoperative evaluation of skeletal muscle and tailored interventions to improve surgical outcomes in this population.
