Optimal Lymph Node Retrieval Enhances Prognosis in Rectal Cancer

Key study findings reveal that removing 14 lymph nodes during surgery for T3-4/N+ rectal cancer patients post neoadjuvant therapy significantly impacts survival outcomes. Notably, elderly and non-elderly patients showed distinct differences in overall and cancer-specific survival rates, supporting 14 lymph nodes as the optimal benchmark for personalized treatment decisions. These results present a crucial cutoff point for prognostic differentiation in this patient population.
