Patients who underwent surgical repair for colonoscopy-related perforations had similar short-term morbidity and mortality rates compared to those undergoing elective or emergency colorectal surgeries. Mortality rate was 4.1%, with no significant difference among open colectomy, suturing, and laparoscopic colectomy. Laparoscopic colectomy had significantly lower morbidity rates. Patients with iatrogenic colonic perforation had better outcomes than those with emergent surgeries. Surgical management of colonic perforations appears safe and effective similar to elective colectomies.
