Robotic rectal cancer surgery preserves urinary and sexual function better than laparoscopic surgery

Robotic rectal cancer surgery (rrcs) is superior to laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery (lrcs) in maintaining urinary and sexual function postoperatively, as seen in a meta-analysis of 13 studies with 1964 patients. Patients who underwent rrcs had significantly better urinary function and male/female sexual function scores at various time points compared to those who had lrcs. These findings suggest rrcs is more advantageous for preserving the quality of life in rectal cancer patients.
