Modified Surgical Apgar Score enhances postoperative complication prediction

Modified Surgical Apgar Score (MSAS) may serve as a valuable tool in predicting postoperative complications in rectal cancer patients undergoing robotic surgery. The study analyzed 524 patients, revealing a 17.4% complication rate, with MSAS scores of 6 identified as optimal cut-off values. The area under the ROC curve was 0.740 for predicted complications, while the prediction nomogram exhibited a higher AUC of 0.834, highlighting older age and lower MSAS as significant risk factors.
