A qualitative study revealed that while 95.8% of junior surgical faculty believe mentorship is crucial for their careers, only 18.3% reported having formal mentors. The study included 333 survey respondents from 18 US academic surgery programs and identified six key themes regarding mentorship experiences. Notably, females had more informal mentors compared to males, and satisfaction was higher with informal mentorship. Almost half of the respondents expressed a lack of adequate options for changing mentors.
