A study of 555 colorectal cancer patients found that the preoperative inflammatory burden index (IBI) is a significant predictor of both surgical and oncological outcomes. Higher IBI scores correlate with advanced disease stages and poorer disease-free and overall survival rates, particularly in high-risk stage II and III patients. Additionally, elevated IBI increased the likelihood of surgical site infections and other postoperative complications. The findings highlight IBI’s potential as a robust biomarker for improving patient management.
