A comprehensive meta-analysis of 154 studies revealed 48 unique risk factors linked to inadequate bowel preparation (IBP) in colonoscopy, involving over 258,000 participants. Key sociodemographic predictors included Medicaid insurance, obesity, and low educational levels. Comorbidities such as psychiatric diseases and diabetes also increased IBP risk. Regarding medications, antidepressants and opioids were significant. The findings aim to enhance patient identification and improve colonoscopy outcomes while potentially reducing healthcare costs from repeat procedures.
