A prospective study of 98 gastric surgery patients compared mechanical and motorized staplers. Results showed that the use of motorized staplers significantly decreased surgical times and number of firings (p<0.0001) without increasing postoperative complications. Notably, patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and laparoscopic distal gastrectomy benefitted from these efficiencies. In contrast, mechanical staplers led to longer operation times in certain anastomosis procedures (p=0.0001). Overall, motorized staplers demonstrated safety and efficacy.
