Cultural Dexterity Training Enhances Surgical Residents’ Skills and Beliefs

A randomized crossover trial revealed that the Provider Awareness and Cultural Dexterity Training for Surgeons (PACTS) curriculum significantly improved surgical residents’ cross-cultural care, self-assessed skills, and beliefs. Early participants showed marked enhancements in cross-cultural care (79.6% to 88.2%) and beliefs (89.6% to 92.4%), while knowledge levels remained unchanged. Conversely, delayed residents exhibited minimal gains across the board. The findings underscore PACTS’ effectiveness in preparing residents for diverse patient populations.
