Laparoscopic hepatectomy outperforms radiofrequency ablation for small tumors

A comparison of laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) revealed that LH provides significantly better overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) for small hepatocellular carcinoma patients. In matched cohorts, 1, 3, and 5-year OS and DSS rates favored LH over RFA. For tumors ≤2 cm, LH demonstrated a trend toward superiority in survival, indicating it should be prioritized as the treatment choice despite some nonsignificant p-values. Factors like AFP levels and tumor differentiation influenced outcomes.
