Stapler method may reduce pancreatic fistulas in surgery

A randomized controlled trial is underway to compare the safety and efficacy of a surgical stapler method versus traditional energy devices for pancreatic parenchymal transection during pancreatoduodenectomy. Initiated in September 2023, the STRAP-PD trial at Wakayama Medical University Hospital aims to evaluate its effectiveness in minimizing postoperative pancreatic fistula rates and complications among patients with soft pancreas. Early pilot results indicated a potential for reduced fistula occurrences.
