A study tracking 101 patients who underwent open ventral hernia repair with a narrow well-fixed retrorectus polypropylene mesh over an average of 7.68 years revealed no recurrent hernias or enterocutaneous fistulas. While 15% of patients required unrelated abdominal surgeries post-repair and 5% reported chronic pain, overall, the procedure demonstrated excellent long-term outcomes without complications. These findings support the ongoing relevance of open repair techniques, particularly for patients with specific abdominal wall challenges.
