A study investigating laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy outcomes found that overweight patients showed significantly higher incidences of clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula and delayed gastric emptying compared to normal-weight counterparts. However, no differences in perioperative mortality or long-term survival rates were observed between the two groups. The study analyzed data from 432 patients, concluding that while laparoscopic procedures are feasible for overweight individuals, further high-quality randomized trials are needed to enhance understanding of these outcomes.
