Intrahepatic and perihepatic abscesses significantly affect postoperative outcomes.

A multicenter study found that 3.3% of 4621 hepatocellular carcinoma patients developed intrahepatic and perihepatic abscesses (ipha) post-hepatectomy. These abscesses led to longer hospital stays (16 vs. 11 days), increased 30-day readmission rates (33% vs. 3.1%), and higher 90-day mortality (11.7% vs. 2.8%). Key risk factors included obesity, diabetes, and major surgical procedures. A novel prediction model demonstrated a robust c-index of 0.747, enhancing preoperative risk assessment.
