A multicenter cohort study involving 1,902 patients with atrial fibrillation found that discontinuing Factor Xa inhibitors before low-risk procedures results in minimal complications. Following the Perioperative Factor Xa Inhibitor Discontinuation protocol, rates of major bleeding were just 0.1%, and no thromboembolic events occurred within 30 days post-procedure. These findings support a standardized approach for managing oral anticoagulant therapy in patients undergoing procedures where bleeding risk is low.
