New Grading System Improves Patient Selection for Minimally Invasive Surgery

An international consensus has established a complexity and experience grading system to guide patient selection for minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (mipd). This system categorizes patient-related risk factors and surgeon experience, enhancing decision-making in surgical procedures. The grading system is designed to mitigate the challenges in adopting mipd globally by emphasizing appropriate patient selection based on defined anatomic, tumor-specific, and experience-related variables. Such a framework could promote safer implementation and comparison of surgical outcomes across institutions.
