Laparoscopic simulation training significantly improved the surgical performance of first-year residents during their initial cholecystectomies. In a study involving 22 surgical residents from 11 German clinics, those who underwent standardized training exhibited an 8.5-point improvement in their global operative assessment scores, compared to a mere 2-point increase in the control group. The findings highlight the effectiveness of ex vivo simulation training in enhancing practical skills before actual surgical procedures.
