Admission myoglobin predicts complications in trauma patients

Elevated myoglobin levels in trauma patients correlate significantly with the development of coagulopathy, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and acute kidney injury (AKI). In a study of 312 patients, myoglobin emerged as a notable independent risk factor for these complications, particularly AKI, with a predictive accuracy of 80.4%. The research underscores the importance of routine muscle injury indicator testing upon admission to enhance early detection and intervention in trauma care.
