Quadratus lumborum blocks reduce postoperative opioid consumption.

A retrospective analysis of 102 patients undergoing open abdominal wall reconstruction revealed that those receiving quadratus lumborum blocks experienced minimal opioid consumption in the first 24 hours post-surgery, with a median of 8 morphine milliequivalents (MMEs). By day 2, opioid use peaked at a median of 47 MMEs before declining. Additionally, the median length of hospital stay was 4.3 days, and no complications were associated with the block procedure, indicating the potential effectiveness of this analgesic approach.
