Minimally invasive surgery reduces recovery time for frail patients.

Minimally invasive surgery for frail patients undergoing emergency hernia repairs leads to shorter hospital stays compared to open surgery, according to data from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. The study analyzed 1,893 patients, revealing no increase in 30-day mortality or changes in discharge destinations. Most patients (83.62%) originally received open repairs. These findings emphasize the need for further research to establish optimal treatment practices for frail patients facing surgical interventions.
