Joint nasogastric tube proves superior for esophagojejunostomy

A novel joint nasogastric tube (JNT) significantly improved the success rate of tube insertion into the esophageal stump during overlap-esophagojejunostomy, reaching 90.6% compared to 58.5% with traditional nasogastric tubing (TNT). Insertion times decreased dramatically, with JNT taking only 15 seconds versus 100 seconds for TNT. Additionally, esophagojejunostomy time was reduced by 4.3 minutes. Postoperative complications were similar across both techniques, indicating JNT is a safe and efficient alternative.
