The Role of Adipose Tissue Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Preventing Anastomotic Leak in Colonic Surgery

Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) were investigated for their potential in reducing inflammation and preventing anastomotic leak in rats with inflammatory bowel disease. Rats were divided into four groups, and those with induced intestinal inflammation were treated with ADMSCs prior to surgery. The study found that ADMSCs effectively attenuated inflammation and significantly reduced the occurrence of anastomotic leak. These findings suggest that ADMSCs could be a promising therapeutic approach for improving colonic anastomosis healing in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
