Research conducted across multiple colorectal operations and surgical approaches found that prolonged operative time is associated with longer length of stay and increased complications. The study revealed that each additional hour above the median operative time is linked to a 1.08 relative risk of longer length of stay for open operations and a 1.07 relative risk for minimally invasive procedures. Despite longer operative times, laparoscopic and robotic approaches showed improved outcomes compared to open surgery.
