The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index is a Prognostic Indicator in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma Patients undergoing Hepatectomy

In a retrospective cohort study of 123 patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) who underwent curative surgery, researchers investigated the prognostic value of the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI). Patients with low GNRI scores had significantly poorer outcomes in terms of recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to those with high GNRI scores. Lymph node metastasis, postoperative complications, and low GNRI scores were identified as independent poor prognostic factors for OS. The study suggests that GNRI may be a useful indicator for predicting outcomes in ICC patients undergoing hepatectomy.
