This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of hyperthyroidism after parathyroidectomy. In a prospective study of 91 patients, 24.2% had suppressed thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) after the procedure, with 2.2% reporting symptoms of hyperthyroidism. However, all cases resolved within 6 weeks without medical intervention. The suppressed TSH group had a higher rate of bilateral explorations and superior parathyroid resections compared to the normal TSH group. These findings suggest that transient hyperthyroidism is commonly seen in parathyroidectomy, likely due to intraoperative thyroid manipulation.
