Researchers compared laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) with laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) in treating obesity. The meta-analysis of 20 studies involving 1270 patients showed that LRYGB was superior to LSG in terms of BMI loss at six months and short-term T2DM remission efficacy. However, LSG had less complications and shorter operating times. Therefore, LRYGB is more effective in short- and mid-term weight loss and T2DM remission, while LSG is preferred for its lower complication rates and quicker surgeries.
