Remission of Obesity-Related Sleep Apnea After Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Reduces Mortality and Cardiovascular Events

After metabolic and bariatric surgery, 74% of patients achieved remission of obesity-related sleep apnea, which was associated with significantly lower risks of overall mortality and major cardiovascular events compared to those who did not reach remission. The risk for death and cardiovascular events in the remission group was similar to a control group without sleep apnea at baseline. Regular follow-up for patients not achieving remission is crucial.
