Near-Infrared Fluorescence Imaging + Indocyanine Green Reduces Hypoparathyroidism Rates in Thyroid Cancer Patients

The study evaluated the impact of near-infrared fluorescence imaging plus indocyanine green fluorescence on postoperative hypoparathyroidism rates after total thyroidectomy and central neck lymph node dissection. The near-infrared fluorescence imaging + indocyanine green group showed significantly lower rates of both transient and permanent hypoparathyroidism compared to the control group and the near-infrared fluorescence imaging alone group. This imaging approach also improved the identification of parathyroid glands and reduced inadvertent resections, contributing to better surgical outcomes.
