The combined use of transient elastography (te) and visual liver score (vls) in assessing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in morbidly obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery showed high sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy. Transient elastography with a visual liver score is comparable to liver biopsy, with an overall sensitivity of 100% and negative predictive value of 100% for diagnosing NAFLD and NASH.
