Eating-specific dichotomous thinking fully mediates the relationship between dietary restraint and weight loss after weight-loss surgery, while generalised dichotomous thinking shows no mediation effect. This suggests that pre-surgical assessment of dichotomous thinking and psychological therapy to promote flexible thinking about food may be beneficial for weight loss maintenance in individuals who have undergone bariatric surgery.
