High-intensity interval training (HIT) is safe for postoperative inpatients, with favorable physiologic outcomes and recovery. Results show higher perceived exertion, shorter exercise completion time, and trend towards faster gait speed compared to low-intensity ambulation. HIT may be beneficial in promoting positive recovery after major surgery.
